2020 Focus

I’m sooooo late on the New Year’s Resolution post, but the thing I like about New Year’s Resolutions is that you should really be working on them all year! So even though it’s well into February, I’m still focusing on myself and trying to complete some goals.

  1. Tidiness – I am not a tidy person, so am trying to get rid of things and tidy for at least 15 minutes every day. Marie Kondo didn’t really do it for me, but this Clutterbug book did.
  2. Fitness – I really stopped exercising last year because work got CRAZY, but I’ve come to realize that I’m happier and have less achey pain when I exercise. (Ummm…obviously…)
  3. French! – I’ve always wanted to be proficient in a second language, so I started taking French class last year. But I’m not devoting enough time outside of the one and a half hour class each week. If future me wants to know two languages, then now me better be working on it!
  4. Write – Pretty self explanatory. I want to get a book deal this year, so I better get cracking.

So I’m late to the party, but at least I came to the party! And I’ll try to keep this whole thing-a-ma-jig more consistent, because why not.

Day 173: Gratitude 13

Gratitude of the day: Meditation

As part of my New Year’s Resolutions, I started meditating every day…or mostly every day. I started using the app Headspace and have been going through the basics or the minis (if I’m crunched for time). I really like the guided meditations as my mind wanders off and I often forget to bring it back to meditating. It’s only been a short time, but I’ve also found the body scan to be very helpful. I guess I never noticed before, but I hold a ball of anxiety and stress right above my stomach and I’m just naturally stressed and clenching my muscles all the time (work).

I don’t like having this feeling all the time, but I do know that now is the time to do something about it before it grows or gets worse. I exercised on Thursday and I’m trying to do a few deep breaths every time I notice it’s there. It’s a work in progress.

Until tomorrow.

Day 146: 18 in 2018

I was listening to Happier with Gretchen Rubin and a listener suggested that instead of (or in addition to) a New Year’s resolution, you have a list of both fun things you want to do and things you want to improve upon. So 18 in 2018 was born! 2018 is just around the corner, so here’s my list below!

18 in 2018

Fly fishing
Go to Portland
Go to a new Museum
Go to Germany & Denmark
Sequoia National Park
Advance to next ballet level
Pay off credit card debt
Get agent for book
Work on Capsule wardrobe
Floss every day
Wear more lipstick
Take Piano lessons
Sign up for a club (look on meetup)
Begin Meditating
Eat Breakfast every day
Go to the doctor
Read more poetry
Fall in Love

So there it is! It has everything. Trips overseas (Germany) and trips in the US (Portland), trying new things (piano lessons), and trying to do things I’ve been trying to do forever(ballet!). Things that seem hard, but are easy to do (going to the doctor) and things that are easy in theory, but hard in practice (falling in love). Let’s see how many I can get done. Updates will follow!

Day 145: New Year’s Resolutions Pt. 1

We’re halfway through December already (eek!) and almost to the end of the year. I can’t believe how quickly the year has flown by. I feel like I haven’t accomplished as much as I want to, but if I break it down piece by piece, I’ve still accomplished a lot. But since the end of the year is so near, it’s time to start thinking about New Year’s resolutions! What do I want my life to look like next year? I have this blog which has helped me immensely, but I think I should also add fun things to my list. So there will be two lists for next year, my resolutions to improve myself and my 18 in 2018 (from Happier with Gretchen Rubin)  which will be a combination of the two.

Until tomorrow!
